Each year, to complement our work in schools, we organise a number of activities during the summer vacation, using adaptations of our Ambassadors of Peace approach.
These activities take place either in our Training Centre for Community Development, in schools, community centres, refugee camps, or in collaboration with other NGOs. Two summer camps have taken place this year involving around 80 children.
These summer camps are an occasion for children to have fun with other children during their holydays but also to learn more about themselves and their environment. At first, training of trainer (TOT) have been put in place in order to help trainers working with Blue mission having a better understanding of children.
ToT tackles themes as psychological stress, rights of child and children animation. During this summer, children learned a lot about steps, causes, types of violence as well as peaceful conflict resolution.
They learned also about their rights as child and about discrimination and equality between boys and girls. We tackled as well the issue of children involved in armed group.
The evaluation of summer activities are very good because children decided together to work on changing their violent behavior as a way of conflict resolution.
They learned how to respect each others and said that they were happy to know new concepts as cooperation, participation, listening, honesty and respect. Ceremonies closed the summer camps with songs and drama.
